LA VIE EN GLOBES
Various news outlets spent much of yesterday trying to reach the morning's newly-minted Golden Globe nominees for reactions. I caught up with some of them after sending out a few congratulatory emails, but the highlight for sure was hearing from Best Actress nominee Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose), who was nice enough to take a break from celebrating her first career nomination to call in from Paris. Here are some excerpts from our chat...
Congraultions on the nomination today! It must be very exciting...
Yes, it is. Yes, it is. And thank you very much.
What was your day like today? Where were you when you heard the news?
Well, I waited to be with my French PR, who is one of my best friends. So he waited for me two hours with the cell phone off, not to be tempted to turn it on and to have the news before me. And so we met, and I called my voice mail, and my agent told me the news. And we were so happy.
Are you going to do anything to celebrate today?
Well, we are still celebrating actually! [laughs] We’ve been celebrating for, like, two hours now!
So I guess you’ll be spending some more time back in the US…
I guess! [laughs]
Have you seen any of the other performances that were nominated in your category?
No—I wish I could see all the movies. I had the chance to meet Helena Bonham Carter a few years ago on Big Fish, Tim Burton’s movie, and I love her. But most of the movies of the category came out just in the U.S. not very long ago, not in France yet—and even if I travel a lot, I didn’t have time yet. I really want to see Juno! And, of course, I really want to see the new Tim Burton movie—I laughed when I saw the trailer. I mean, I loved it right away! I was like, “I’m gonna love that movie, for sure!” So I’m really looking forward to seeing this one too. And I have the DVD of Hairspray, which I will see very soon, too.
Next up, obviously, is the Oscars, and you’re looking very good for a nomination there. How do you feel about that?
It’s kind of hard for me to explain exactly how I feel. I can’t be blind—a lot of people are talking about this. Yeah, it’s something very hard to explain. I wouldn’t have thought that I would be talking about Golden Globes or Oscars, like, back one year ago, so I’m just enjoying every minute, every second, without trying to fantasize about things. I’m just taking all this at the present time. And it’s great.
(Prior to yesterday, I had last spoken with Cotillard in late November, when she gave a wonderful interview for the "ATWI... Interview Series.")
