Under Clint Eastwood, you have Marcia Gay Harden nominated for Million Dollar Baby, instead of Mystic River. You also forgot to add Anjelina Jolie to the list for Eastwood for Best Actress in Changeling.
I’m surprised at you, Scott! George Segal not only lost the 1967 supporting actor Oscar to Walter Matthau in “The Fortune Cookie”, but he has actually never won an Oscar for any of his fine contributions to the world of film.
Scott,
You left of Angelina Jolie’s nomination for Best Actress in ‘Changling’ under Clint Eastwood’s direction.
Just an FYI – Marcia Gay Harden was nominated for “Mystic River”, not “Million Dollar Baby”. Great article though!
Great breakdown of the impact directors have had on actors and their chances of scoring an Oscar nomination. I think the director with the best track record of all time is William Wyler, but I’m not sure. Not to sound like a stickler, but I did notice a few things in your list:
Under Clint Eastwood, you wrote:
Marcia Gay Harden (“Million Dollar Baby,” 2004) for best supporting actress
-It should read: Marcia Gay Harden (“Mystic River”, 2003) for best supporting actress
Under Mike Nichols, you wrote:
George Segal (“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” 1966) for best supporting actor WON
-George Segal didn’t win that year, Walter Mathau did for ‘The Fortune Cookie’
Under Jonathan Demme, you wrote:
Tom Hanks (“Philadelphia,” 1993) for best actor
-He won that year
Under Stephen Frears, you wrote
Helen Mirren (“The Queen,” 2006) for best actress
-She won that year
I look forward to your blogs. They’re really informative and keep me up-to-date with all things Oscar.
Add one more for Clint Eastwood: Angelina Jolie (“Changeling,” 2008) for Best Actress
hey just wanted to let you know that under eastwood you have marcia gay harden getting a nomination for million dollar baby instead of mystic river and you forgot to add anjelina jolie for the changeling
Marcia Gay Harden was nominated for BSA for MYSTIC RIVER not MILLION DOLLAR BABY, she wasn’t even in that movie.
Thank you all for reading this so closely and catching my Harden, Jolie, and Segal typos! I’ll have to reread my work more carefully next time!
