THE LAST ZIEGFELD GIRL
9 May

I just got off the phone after one of the most special interviews I’ve ever conducted: I spoke with national treasure Doris Eaton Travis, the last surviving “Ziegfeld Girl,” who is 104 years old and still sharp as a tack mentally (she remembers everything!) and physically (as you can see here, she’s still dancing!). Over the course of an hour, we talked about her entire life, but especially about the three years (1918-1920) during which she worked for Broadway empresario Florenz Ziegfeld and appeared in his famed Ziegfeld Follies showgirl-spectaculars, which were the most popular thing on the Great White Way during the first quarter of the 20th century. I have uploaded our entire conversation and you should be able to listen to it below—but the site has been experiencing some technical difficulties, so if you can’t hear it now then be sure to check back soon…

Adorable! I love her.
Do you happen to still have a copy of the interview? The link doesn’t appear to work, and i would love it if you could repost it. I will check back periodically, but don’t worry if you can’t.
We are neighbors with Doris Eaton Travis and are going to attend her 106th Birthday party on March 13, 2010. She is still as adorable as ever. We can’t wait to attend the party. Joyce & Steve Wallace
Wallace is the last name. We are living in West Bloomfield, Michigan and are across the street from Doris. What an honor to be invited the her party. Joyce
Dear Ms. Wallace. Do you think it is a good idea to share
where you live in relation to Ms. Eaton Travis? The family
loves their privacy, contrary to what you may think. Hope
you had fun at the party.
