3 - I really agree with you in almost everything, for some reason I keep thinking one of the 9/11 films will be a strong contender here. I'm leaning towards World Trade Center. Since Cannes, a lot of GGs have said they are in love with Babel & Volver. So I'm pretty sure Babel will get in, as well as Penelope Cruz.

4 - I am beginning to doubt that The Good German will score in anything other than the best actress category for Cate Blanchett - news from screenings was not wildly enthusiastic (Comment this)

5 - I heard that Jennifer Hudson is being positioned for a best actress nod rather than supporting. If that's so, she'll definitely get the nod, and will probably win. I also agree with #4. I'd also say that the list might be a little too tidy--I think there'll definitely be a few left-field nominees like there have been in previous years (e.g., Scarlett Johanssen in A Love Song for Bobby Long) (Comment this)

6 - Well I don't get what's so big about J-Hud in Dreamgirls... she's not even an actress! I don't understand why people think she should win an Oscar...

It was already absurd when Cher took the Best Actress Oscar in '87 for Moonstruck. And Glenn Close remains empty-handed until this very day... And we all know and respect Cher for her carreer, and she ain't bad as an actress also.

But seriously, wouldn't it be one of the most unfair choices of all times if Meryl Streep (in a magnificent and funny performance) is defeated by... Jennifer Hudson (a singer in the role of an actress in the role of a singer)???!

And if she gets the Oscar, it will be another statuette thrown away unfairly, and the Academy's reputation will be hurt more than it is already...

Pardon me, maybe I don't really understand too much about movies and Oscars, but as far as I can see things, this "Jennifer-Hudson-fever" seems very absurd and weird to me. And I don't really want her to win anything. Movie awards should be given to real actors and to real actors only. But I know she's currently a frontrunner.

Or perhaps I'm justing rooting too much for Meryl in "Prada". I loved her in that movie and I would love to see her win at least the Golden Globe, even though she's actress enough to grab her third Academy Award. If Kate Hepburn could win 4, Streep deserves at least 3. Besides, she's on to her 14th nomination!! But I would be happy to actually see Helen Mirren winning here. After years, the veterans would finally reclaim their throne in this category. (Comment this)

7 - I don't care if you are a seasoned star or not... if you got the chops to act and act well, then more power to Jennifer Hudson, god forbid there could ever be new talent discovered that can take on the likes of Meryl. (Comment this)
